oh tech blogs...

...you sure know how to tug at my heart strings.

Today is 11.11.10...which means that it's been exactly 48 hours since I could upgrade my phone. I have yet to order anything and it hurts.

Last year, on 11.6.09 at midnight on the DOT I ordered the new Droid, Verizon's first android device. I received my sales confirmation at 1:22am. Phone came in on Monday. I returned it two weeks later [no judging, android is dope but I hated the actual form factor of the phone].

I lived in blissful ignorance with my Tour for the next year.

And now here we are and I am, once again, about to throw my BB at a wall. The difference between this year and last though is that now there are a plethora of android options to choose from. An absolute plethora.

The problem? This little curly haired girl likes technology. A lot. Reading forums and tech blogs like it's my job [IS there a job that entails this? Because if so, I am your girl!] I have been stalking forums for like 2 weeks now.

So while I am totally aware of the awesomeness that is the X and Incredible...I am, unfortunately, also aware of the supposed upcoming awesomeness. Namely the Incredible HD/Incredible 2 ie Verizon's evo and the next big hotness to hit the big red [that's Verizon btw].

And what makes this an even bigger problem is that said device is a f*cking unicorn at the moment. Lots of talk, no proof, and whisperings of a pre-order SOON. Which makes me happy but I don't get it. Actually, I'm dying to get it but I don't get how it's going to go on some mysterious pre-order. Like really soon.

No comprendo.

But I want a new phone. Like 2 days ago. Shit if I had ordered 2 days ago I would have it by now.

:: puts away trigger finger and says a little prayer ::

Dear tech gods...please don't let me down. Please give me something awesome to buy and SOON. Like by the end of the year at the ABSOLUTE LATEST [but I really mean by tomorrow hint hint]. If you don't, I'll just buy the Incredible and pretend not to notice all of the new LTE phones you are bound to drop on us next year [which really isn't THAT huge a deal because I switch phones every year]. Thank you.

phone, telefono, telefone, telefon ...

ok so ... if you know me, you know i like gadgets. scratch that, i LOVE gadgets. something about a brand new shiny toy excites me, makes me happy, makes me antsy.

enter my new gadget:

:: hymns playing ::

ok ok not that serious but yea .. that's my new toy. we shall stick to calling him droid as i am just leasing him, and have yet to decide if i want to make the full purchase. it's no BB i'll tell you that much! it does 1000000 things and i only know how to do about 5 of them.

smh.

to say this is a learning curve is an understatement ... took me 10min just to figure out how to save a file i get in a text [oh but good news, i now do receive mms messages lolol]

anyway .. seeing as how i've had this bad boy for only 24+ hours, i can hardly say i can make a good judgement call on it. but for now:

  • it's heavy
  • the virtual keyboard is way better than the real one
  • the USB/power cord is WAY too short ... retardedly short
  • it's fast as hell
  • the screen is uber pretty
  • i like all the customizable features
  • still getting used to this touch thing ... never had a touch screen before. ever.
  • there are bugs [duh] and unfortunately, the fix won't come until AFTER i have to have a decision made. therefore i need to decide on a bugged out phone. great.
  • more than half the bugs listed i have yet to discover so it's not that big a deal
  • apparently the way to discover all the menu options available is to hit the menu button or just randomly press down on something and see what happens.
lmao. that's it. super informal, not very informative, but it's all i got. do i like it? yes!!! am i DEFINITELY keeping it? no idea. i've barely had it for 2 days; right now it seems like something i'm playing with on loan and not something i'll be using as my phone for a year. gimme till the end of week 3 and i'll see how i feel. :) if i can't take it, back to blackberry i go [and i didn't think i'd say this but i MISS MY BB!!!]

the funny thing is that as much as i *love* new phones, i HATE the phone. i hate speaking on it, i feel like it's a waste of time. there are barely people that i will actually pick up for, let alone get into a full out convo with. so with that said:

my phone habits/rules:

  • i am a notorious ignorer. i will practically never actually HIT the ignore button [unless i'm pissed at you], but i will blatantly either mute it or just walk away from it. always. day or night, rain or shine.
  • if you have fallen victim to only hearing my voice via voicemail, never fear; it's not you. it's you and about 95% of the people i know.
  • i loathe talking on the phone and only have approximately two handfuls of people that i can actually talk on the phone with, so if you think i'm that girl that will keep you gabbing for 3 hrs, you got the wrong chick.
  • do not call my cell phone during work hours. if you're calling with the hopes that just maybe i pick up, i will not. 1] my phone is always on silent at work because hi, i'm at WORK. i try to do only work things at work, and no one from the job that pays my rent and gives me benefits is going to be calling me on my cellphone. 2] i get shitty signal in the office so even if i wanted to pick up, i can barely hold a call.
  • if you call me and leave me no voicemail/text/email/fb message/smoke signal telling me what the call was about, i will not call you back. i don't play that "did you call me?" game. obviously you called me, you're on my missed calls list. the question is WHY did you call me, and if you couldn't take 2 min to tell me, i'm not going to take 2 min to try to find out. :: smile ::
  • same goes for unrecognized number. no number, no pick up.
  • do NOT call me after 11pm. actually, call, but have fun listening to ringing. i shut my ringer off every night and with the exception of my family calling me, your calls fall to deaf ears [and if you think i'm a big B for doing this, tell me if this is cool: someone called me once at 1:30am on a work week to ask me about itunes :: pause :: yes, ITUNES ... ok then, i win]
point of the story: you will have a MUCH faster response time if you email/instant message/gchat/facebook/text me. trust me.

:)
