well i'll be damned ...

in 7 months i've watched our first black president get sworn in and today they confirmed the first hispanic ever on the supreme court. i'm going to have great stories to tell my kids.

one thing is bothering me though ... while i am not trying to take away from the fact that she is puerto rican, why do they keep stressing puerto rican SO specifically. can we just focus on the fact that she's a latina? that this accomplishment has not been achieved by ANYONE, man or woman, of any latino heritage, ever? would it have been any different or any less monumental if she had been mexican or ecuadorian? how come obama is the first black president .... not the first Kenyan president ... but sotomayor is the first puerto rican on the supreme court?

=/

whatever ... i'm very proud that a LATINA, from the bronx, and from my high school to top it off, has attained such an amazing position. she TRULY is the "jenny from the block" and it's wonderful. i hope that children everywhere will grow up looking at these two individuals and really believing that they can do it too. that people "like us" can reach such amazing heights if they just work for it.

there's still like 5 months left in the year ... i wonder what'll happen next!
